What We Do

Great Salt Lake Minerals uses all-natural processes to produce organic-approved fertilizer from the lake’s brine. There is no other site in North America that can match this location’s naturally occurring nutrients, highly concentrated brine, reliable sunshine, and readily available transportation to major markets.

Here is how our all-natural process works:

Highly saline brine flows into shallow ponds built by the Great Salt Lake. It takes three years for the sun’s energy to evaporate the water from the brine, leaving a dry bed of the lake’s minerals. These minerals are then gathered for processing. The minerals are heated, cooled, filtered and dried into high-quality potassium fertilizer (sulfate of potash) and other natural products. No chemicals are added and there is no toxic waste.

What We Do 2Organic-approved sulfate of potash specialty fertilizer is produced in a variety of granular sizes suitable for different crops and application methods. The nutrient is distributed to farmers and growers across the country and around the world.

Growers of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other wholesome food crops use our sulfate of potash to restore nutrients to the soil, increase crop yield, improve crop quality, and increase resistance to disease and drought.

In addition to sulfate of potash, we produce salt used for de-icing as well as for commercial products and magnesium chloride used for roadway de-icing in winter and dust control in summer.
